Welcome!

I’m a writer, librarian, and author of nine books for children. I live in Alaska where I read, write, garden, ski, and occasionally dodge moose.

You’ll find information about me and the books I’ve written at this site.

To find out more about my books, other children’s books about Alaska, and writing for children in the North, take a look at my blog Kid Lit North.

Thanks for looking me up!

    Hello Ann Dixon,

I am a language revitalization activist, and an Okanagan First Nation person, based in Southern BC. I spent last winter working on Tlingit, in Whitehorse Yukon, on request from friends there. As you know, Tlingit is critically endangered, and there have been no new speakers created in Canada in 60+ years. While teaching beginner classes, I came across your excellent book, How Raven Brought Light to the People, in the Whitehorse public library. I teach using a story-based method and I believe the story and illustrations would make excellent learning material. I would like to obtain permission to use the illustrations to create beginner-level teaching materials. (note, I am not speaking of publishing the book in Tlingit, just making learning materials, but if you wish to republish in Tlingit I will happily supply the text). I have recorded an Elder speaker saying a simplified version of the sentences in Tlingit. I contacted the illustrator, James Watts, and he replied with a preliminary permission. The illustrations would be used in beginner classes, and will be used on a language app. We will make no profit from teaching these classes or using the materials, and would like to be able to use them freely in lessons. The language app will be created by Simon Fraser University, Burnaby BC. Please reply to my email address at michelekjohnson@gmail.com

  2. Remember me? I’m looking for someone to blurb my latest book, a 59,000-word Young Adult historical fiction set among the Mississippians of the St. Louis area.

    • Hello, Ann! Of course I remember you. I’d be happy to read and blurb your book, depending on your timeline — I’ve got a full plate until after 4th of July. Also, I know almost nothing about the St. Louis area or Mississippi history, so I wouldn’t be able to comment on that aspect.
